Planners oppose Sweeney proposal

PLANNERS have said they intend to refuse a planning application for 82 new homes lodged by Seymour Sweeney.

The North Coast-based developer, who has approval for substantial residential and commercial development in Larne West, also applied to build 30 semi-detached and terraced houses, 32 maisionettes and 20 apartments at Ballyhampton Road.

Planning Service is to tell Larne Borough Council’s public services committee next week that they oppose the application submitted in 2006, because the proposed site is “within an area zoned for a school”. They say the site “should be retained for future educational needs”.

The planners’ opinion will be presented to the committee on Monday for scrutiny. Councillors have no say on planning decisions, although they are entitled to make representations on behalf of applicants or objectors and may ask that cases be deferred for the consideration by Planning Service of additional information.
