Planners re-iterate opposition to Marine Hotel plans

PLANNERS have confirmed they are still of the opinion to refuse permission for a major redevelopment of the Marine Hotel in Ballycastle.

There was a plan lodged for the ‘demolition of the existing buildings at the Marine Hotel and Country Club to provide a new hotel with associated facilities, car parking and landscaping to include refurbishment and extension of existing Country Club and upgrade landscape works to Ballycastle War Memorial’.

In February planners said they were of the opinion to refuse the plans and Moyle Council disagreed with the recommendation but the application ‘never issued’ as the Department was awaiting details of the refusal reasons from its consultees following the Council meeting.

Now in a letter to Moyle Council, the planners said their opinion remains unchanged and therefore they are now in a position to issue the decision notice refusing planning permission.

‘This letter should therefore be taken as the Department’s final consultation with Moyle District Council and the decision will issue now,’ said correspondence.
