Planners reject Moira adult gaming centre

THE Chairman of Lisburn Council’s Planning Committee, Alderman James Tinsley, has welcomed news that the Planning Service has rejected an application for an adult gaming centre in Moira.

Permission had been sought to change the use of 78 Main Street in the village from a retail unit.

At the time the application was lodged, local residents, businesses and churches in Moira were reported to have been opposed to the change.

Seven letters of objection were lodged with the Planning Service opposing the application.

This month’s meeting of Lisburn City Council’s Planning Committee heard the application had been rejected.

The Planners stated that the proposal, if it went ahead, would detract from the character of the area as it would “introduce a use out of keeping with the conservation area.”

In rejecting the scheme, the planners also said it would result in the loss of shopping floorspace and “create a precedent for similar developments to the detriment of the shopping centre.”

Finally, the Planners said the proposal was “unsatisfactory” as it would have “an adverse effect on the residential amenity of nearby dwellings by reason of noise, nuisance and general disturbance.”

Mr Tinsley welcomed the refusal.

“I welcome this decision,” he said. “Churches, local businesses, residents and the PSNI weren’t happy about this application. This is good news for Moira.”
