Planning Appeal at Ballyloughan Brow dismissed

THE DISMISSAL of a Planning Appeal at Ballyloughan Brow, has been welcomed by MLA Declan O'Loan.

This sought to demolish one house at No.13 and erect 12 apartments. The appeal has just been turned down by the Planning Appeals Commission.

He said: "This was a sound decision by the PAC and it will be welcomed by the neighbours who feel very strongly about such proposed developments. The PAC concluded that the proposal was out of keeping with the generous plot sizes and spacious nature of the surrounding development, and that it would appear over dominant and incongruous. It upheld the objectors concerns on these issues.

"I am not against every brownfield development scheme but there is no case for the type of proposal that we have seen in Ballyloughan Brow. These are single houses on large sites and should retain that broad character."

He added: "I am disappointed that the Planning Service took a different view recently in approving a demolition of another house in Ballyloughan Brow and the building of 5 apartments. Even that was going too far in my opinion.

"I hope that this latest decision to dismiss from the PAC becomes the standard approach for any future proposals in this housing development. Its character must be retained."
