Lisburn Councillor, Alexander Redpath, welcomed the granting of permission for the new car park. “I welcome the news regarding this car park which is an essential step towards opening Hillsborough Castle up to the public,” he said. “One of the biggest local concerns about this development would be how the project would impact on the daily lives of residents in Hillsborough especially in regards to parking. I am glad that Historic Royal Palaces will have a dedicated car park with direct access to the A1 which I believe is essential if the large amount of projected visitors are accommodated.”
