Alderman Sam Cole has told local Planning Officers that a decision made by Environment Minister Mark Durkan not to accept an invitation to speak to the Causeway Coast and Glens Planning Committee was '˜contemptible'.

The Garvagh councillor said that Minister Durkan had been invited to make a presentation to the Committee, to explain his reasons for ‘calling in’ and overturning a decision by the Committee to reject an application for the controversial ‘Cam Burn Wind Farm’ in October 2015.

Alderman Cole told Wednesday’s meeting that he understood that it is a legal requirement for representatives of the Planning Committee to meet with the Planning Appeals Commission in relation to the ‘call in’ was being postponed to early May, just before the Assembly Elections.

Accepting a proposal from Ald. Cole, the Planning Committee agreed to write to the Minister expressing regret over his decision not to meet with them, and to discuss the reason for his action.

The letter will also request that the legally required meeting with the Planning Appeals Commission in regards to his ‘Call In’ would be arranged well before the May Election to help and facilitate the Councillors making up the Deputation.
