Planning expertto advise council

Roisin Wilmott, Director of Royal Town Planning Institute for Wales and Northern Ireland will be the guest speaker at this week’s Shadow Planning meeting of the Derry City and Strabane District Council, to be held at the Guildhall on Wednesday, September 10 at 4pm.

Roisin will give an overview of the Draft Protocol for the Operation of Planning Committees and give elected members and the public attending the meeting an interesting insight into protocols for the operation of planning committees as the new Council comes into existence.

John Kelpie, Chief Executive of Derry City and Strabane District Council, encouraged the public and those interested in how the transfer of planning powers to local Council will operate, to attend the meeting.

Roisin has been a Chartered Town Planner since 1994. She is the National Director for the Royal Town Planning Institute in Wales (RTPI Cymru), responsible for ensuring there are services in place for planners based in Wales and for leading on RTPI work regarding planning policy in Wales, such as responding to planning related policy consultations affecting Wales.

Before working for the RTPI, she worked for an economic and planning consultancy, ECOTEC, based in Cardiff working across the UK and Europe. In particular she led a number of planning contracts for the Welsh Assembly Government, including the study which examined how national planning policies in Wales are developed.

Roisin’s career in planning first began in the strategic planning department at Northamptonshire County Council.

She then moved into the regeneration field working at the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council in the early 1990s, moving to Coleg Gwent as the European Programme Manager in 2001. Roisin is now a Governor at the College and Chairs the Estate Strategy Implementation Group.

She studied part-time for a PhD, analysing the changing governance systems in Wales used to implement European Regional Policy.
