Apartments approved at Captain Street

A RESIDENTIAL development has been approved by planners, at Captain Street in Coleraine.

The application, for 22 apartments at 38, 40 and 42 Lower Captain Street, came before last Tuesday’s planning meeting.

There were three objections to the proposal , but planners approved the application.

Atlantic Road development approved

PLANNERS have approved an application for erect 54 apartments at The Elms, 1 Atlantic Road, Coleraine.

The application will see the demolition of the existing dwelling, to accommodate the 54 apartments in five blocks, with car parking and landscaping.There were no objections.

Office meeting for Kilrea development

AN office meeting is to be held about a development at 9 and 10 The Diamond in Kilrea.

The application for a three storey apartment block, with a ground floor retail unit, was on last Tuesday’s planning schedule as a refusal.

Planners refused the application on the basis that the waste water infrastructure does not have the capacity for the development.

Councillor Olive Church asked if an office meeting could be held about the development. Her proposal was seconded by councillor Adrian McQuillan, who suggested that Northern Ireland Water should be present at the meeting.

Extension for licensed restaurant

AN application to extend an existing licensed restaurant in Portstewart has been approved.

The application, a t 17 to 20 The Promenade, was on last Tuesday night’s planning schedule, and had one letter of objection.

The development will see an extension to the restaurant and the conversion of an existing retail unit and residential accommodation into a public house and lounge bar with ancillary accommodation.

Office meeting for Shellbridge development

PLANNERS have approved a residential development of 117 units at lands adjacent to Shellbridge Park in Coleraine.

The application proposes to build 117 units - 50 apartments, 35 townhouses and 32 semi detached dwellings with associated carparking and landscaping.

There were two letters of objection.

Councillor Maurice Bradley asked for an office meeting on behalf on the residents and this was agreed.

Nursing home extension

AN extension at the Cottage Nursing Home, at Lodge Park in Coleraine, has been given the green light by planners.

The application will provide 12 additional bedrooms at the home.

New retail showroom for Riverside Centre

A NEW retail unit at the Riverside Regional Centre in Coleraine, has been approved by planners.

The application, at lands due north of Burger King, is for a retail showroom with car parking and landscaping.

There were no objection letters for the application.

Underground dwellings refused

AN application to build two underground dwellings adjacent to 17 Bath Terrace in Portrush, has been refused by planners.

At last Tuesday’s planning meeting, councillors were told that the application was being refused on the grounds that it failed to provide a quality residential environment. Councillors agreed with the refusal.

Extension for Wattstown unit

PLANNERS have agreed to allow an extension at Lamont Fireplaces in Coleraine.

The application will permit a new store and additional car parking at the site. There were no objections to the application.

Councillors agree with planners on Ratheane application

AN application to build a new one-and-a-half storey dwelling adjacent to 39 Ratheane Avenue appeared on last Tuesday’s night schedule as a refusal.

Planners refused the application on a number of reasons including that it failed to provide a quality residential environment, the layout does not respect that of nearby housing, and it is not in keeping with the character of the neighbourhood.

There were eight objection letters about the application, which raised issues about noise, road safety and overlooking.

Councillor Adrian McQuillan asked for an office meeting, however Alderman McClure proposed an amendment, that councillors should agree with planners.

On being put to a vote, alderman McClure’s amendment was carried by 11 votes to 2.
