Garage application withdrawn over land challenge

A PLANNING application by a Coleraine garage has been withdrawn after a land ownership challenge.

The application by Roadside Garages of Somerset Road was for a new two storey commercial unit to provide additional floor space, administration suites, office space and associated car parking.

At Tuesday’s meeting of Coleraine Borough Council’s Planning Committee, members were told that the application had now been withdrawn due to a land ownership challenge by Coleraine Borough Council.

Portstewart plans withdrawn because of excavation

PLANS for apartments and shops in the Diamond area of Portstewart have been withdrawn.

Tuesday’s meeting of Coleraine Council’s Planning Committee heard that the plans for the Diamond and Coleraine Road by Three Four Ltd had been withdrawn because of unauthorised excavation on the site.

There had been 15 letters of objection to the plans for four shops, 19 apartments and parking areas at Nos 21a, 21b, 21c, 23 and 23 The Diamond and Nos 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 Coleraine Road.

Another Ballycairn application sent to Minister

ANOTHER planning application for the Ballycairn area of Coleraine is to be sent to the Minister responsible for the Environment for consideration.

The application by Corramore Construction Ltd is for eight detached houses on the site of 15 Ballycairn Road.

Members of Coleraine Council’s Planning Committee heard on Tuesday that Planners have approved the scheme despite ten letters of objection.

There was some confusion over the application but Planning representative Paul Duffy explained to members that the application had mistakenly been withdrawn from last month’s list.

Independent councillor Christine Alexander proposed that the scheme be included in the meeting scheduled with Planning Minister, Alex Attwood, to discuss other controversial applications in the Ballycairn area. This was seconded by the other independent councillor in the chamber, Cllr David McClarty.

Portstewart house

extension approved

AN APPLICATION to extend a Portstewart house has been approved by Planners despite four letters of objection.

The application by Mrs M Dalzell to extend 1 Quarry Hill to provide a bedroom, bathroom and lounge was passed at Tuesday’s meeting of Coleraine Council’s Planning meeting.

Aghadowey house approved

PLANS to build a new house in Aghadowey has been passed by Planners despite two letters of objection.

Tuesday’s meeting of Coleraine Council’s Planning Committee heard that an application by Mr Gerry McAuley for a new house and garage at 88 Mullaghinch Road had been approved.

Turbine plan refused

A PLANNING application for a wind turbine in Portstewart has been refused because it would detract from the views from Binevenagh.

The application by NM Development was for land south east of 188 Coleraine Road in Portstewart.

However, Planners refused the application as it would have “an unacceptable impact on visual amenity within Binevenagh Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Binevenagh landscape character area”.

Portballintrae balcony

plans approved

PLANS to replace a balcony on a Portballintrae house have been approved by Planners despite three letters of objection.

The application from Gilbert Grummitt of Holywood was for a balcony replacement with an extension below.

Planners received three letters from objectors who were concerned with loss of privacy and disturbance.

However, Planning representative Paul Duffy told Coleraine Council’s Planning Committee that amended plans had been received which were satisfactory. Therefore, the application was approved.

Golf Links caravan park extension approved

THE Golf Links caravan park in Portrush has had an application to extend its premises approved.

The plans will see the holiday home park extended to provide 57 new units and storage.

Riding for Disabled arena

refused by Planners

PLANS by the local branch of Riding for the Disabled to demolish their existing arena and replace it with a new one have been refused by Planners.

The application for 155a Castleroe Road in Coleraine was turned down as Planners said the building was designed for agricultural purposes.

Planners also said the applicant had failed to provide adequate access arrangements.
