PLANNERS have approved the redevelopment of a site at The Diamond in Portstewart.

The application, which will include two ground floor retail units and one first floor retail unit appeared on Tuesday night’s planning schedule as an approval.

The application had previously been deferred for an office meeting.

As part of the plans, the Bookmakers currently located at the site at 23 and 25 the Diamond will be relocated.

Wind Turbines approved

A number of wind turbines have been approved in the Coleraine area.

A single 250w wind turbine will be erected at Craigmore Landfill Site in Ringsend. Planning permission has also been granted for a wind turbine at 161 Carrowreagh Road in Moneydig.

A 100 kw wind turbine has also been approved as part of a farm diversification development at Glebe Road in Garvagh. In Portrush, a 50kw turbine has been approved at 60 Glenmanus Road. A single turbine with an output of 250kw has been approved at Blagh Road in Coleraine.

Three new homes for Strand Road

A development at Strand Road in Portstewart has been given the green light despite there being 14 letters of objection to the plans.

The application was deferred from the September meeting for an office meeting to allow objectors to have their say.

However, at Tuesday night’s Planning Committee meeting, the application for the demolition of the existing house to be replaced with three new dwellings appeared on the list as an approval.

Advertising sign refused

AN application by Northern Ireland Transport to put an advertising sign on the embankment at Portstewart Road in Portrush has been refused.

Planners rejected the application as they felt that the nature and scale of the sign would not fit in with the development plan process.

Quarry to be restored

A quarry at Ballyholme Road in Portrush will be restored after planning permission was granted at last Tuesday night’s Planning Committee.

The application to restore by infilling with material from construction and demolition wastes, had seven letters of objection.

Objectors raised concerns about noise, traffic and the impact on residents.
