Plans a ‘cost cutting’ move

THE proposed closure of Crozier House has been described as a cost cutting exercise.

Upper Bann MLA Sam Gardiner said: “I am opposed to all closures of elderly care homes which I see primarily as a cost cutting exercise by the trusts without due regard for the impact it will have on vulnerable senior citizens.

“Until the board has specific proposals for an alternative these homes must remain open. Just to say that care in the community will replace these homes is not enough.

“This option must be fully explained in totally explicit detail otherwise it is meaningless.

“We have an overriding duty to look after the interests of our senior citizens. I would rather see bureaucracy reduced than senior citizens hurt.”
