Plans afoot to celebrate Covenant centenary

BANBRIDGE District LOL No. 7 have set out their plans for commemorating the centenary of the Ulster Covenant.

On Saturday June 30 the lodge will be staging a parade and re-enactment in Banbridge town centre. The parade will leave Banbridge Orange Hall at 12 noon where it will make its way around the town. The re-enactment will depict the old unionist clubs of 1912/1913 parading Banbridge and in particular the photo attached.

This should be a spectacular parade with the Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Bro Edward Stevenson, in attendance along with other dignitaries.

Once the parade has returned to the Orange Hall there will be an extensive exhibition opened to the public showing off artefacts, posters and postcards from the 1912 period. There will also be the opportunity to sign your very own Ulster Covenant just like our ancestors did 100 years ago.

Also on Sunday July 1 the District will be holding their annual Battle of the Somme church service and parade. This year attending Scarva Street Presbyterian Church, with parade to follow.
