Plans afoot to improve Boom Hall access

PLANS are afoot to improve access to Boom Hall - the historic Londonderry estate were James II set up camp during the Siege of Derry - and develop a cycle path network and telescopic viewing point at the adjacent Bay Park.

An application has been lodged with the local planning office to extend an access road to Boom Hall with provision of a pedestrian/cycle path from the building to the adjacent Foyle Bridge.

Related plans are also in place to develop a new cycle path through the Bay Road Park as far as the Kelly Fuels depot at the entrance of the park.

New footpaths, resurfacing of existing paths and minor drainage works will also be carried out and a viewpoint on the riverbank with a telescope adjacent to the mudflats will be provided.

It is also proposed stone pillars be introduced at the main entrances and stone walling be introduced along part of the Bay Road.
