As previously reported in the Times, dance graduate Karla Ritchie was seeking local people to take part in an event at Broadway in the town centre.

The flash mob phenomenon, which has become popular in towns and cities across the world, involves a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place to surprise and entertain people with a spontaneous performance.

And Karla has now gathered a group of about 15 adults and children, who are now busy planning the unique event.

Karla said: “Most of the people got involved after hearing about the project on facebook.

“Those taking part range from eight-years-old to about the age of 30.

“We have been holding classes in the darts room at the Ballylumford Club, where we have been getting together to come up with some ideas for the theme of the event and practice our routine.

“I am really excited about this project and hope people will get a thrill out of watching us perform.”

A former St Comgall’s College pupil, Karla completed a three-year dance course at the University of Lincoln last year. She then undertook a BTEC in dance at Belfast Metropolitan College and is now hoping to start up her own business to share her passion for dance with others.

She said: “I have been dancing since I was eight-years-old and I would love to have my own dance classes in Larne. I think a flash mob would be the perfect way to get people interested in dance, while at the same time allowing me to market myself and my skills.

In a bid to get the ball rolling on her dream of starting up a small dance company in Larne, Karla has completed an intensive six-week business course at LEDCOM.
