Plans for Ballycastle hotel 'rejected'

PLANS for a new hotel in Ballycastle at a site currently occupied by the Marine Hotel have been provisionally rejected by the Planning Service.

The decision of the authorities to refuse the proposed hotel was delivered at a meeting of Moyle District Council on Monday night.

The applicant - McAlister Holdings - had sought the green light to demolish existing buildings on the Quay Road and North Street to make way for the 200 room hotel.

However all three applications relating to the project have been turned down.

McAlister Holdings had planned to use the site to provide the new hotel as well as car parking and landscaping to include refurbishment and the extension of the existing country club.

A Planning Service spokesperson told the meeting a number of letters of support and objection had been received by the department.
