Plans for bridge refurbishment

Translink is advising passengers and residents of essential engineering work to refurbish and strengthen the Six Mile Water Railway Bridge located on the Antrim to Knockmore railway line.

The work will start around mid-January and is expected to be finished by June 2016.

Mark Atkinson, Infrastructure Manager with Translink, said: “While this part of the NI Railways network is not in regular passenger use, the work is required to maintain the safety of the structure as well as secure the line’s operation for the future.

“Engineering trains may be operating on this line at any time of the day or night so it is extremely important for local residents and motorists to stay vigilant at all times, use rail crossings safely and never use the line as a short cut.”

Activity will include repairs to steelwork and the replacement of rivets along the bridge.

Mr Atkinson added: “Local residents have been advised of the works and Translink would like to thank passengers for their patience. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask for your support while we work to improve our rail network.”
