Plans lodged for £10m T&H hotel

HOTELIER Andras House has lodged a planning application for a £10m landmark hotel on the former Tillie and Henderson house that will create 70 permanent jobs and 80 construction jobs.

The application for the former Tillie and Henderson factory site at the end of the Craigavon Bridge has finally been submitted to the local planning office almost a decade after it was gutted by fire in late 2002.

The plan is for a mixed use development incorporating an 139 bed hotel, two retail units, 15 apartments, integral car

parking and associated works.

Three months ago Lord Rana’s son Rajesh - a director of hotelier Andras House - briefed Derry City Council on the planned development telling councillors he envisaged “a very recognisable” mid-market hotel such as the Holiday Inn or the Hilton Garden Inn taking on the 139 bedroom development.

He said that after an 18 month long engagement with planners minor issues over roads, the height of the proposed building and the historic nature of the site were close to resolution.

The overall hotel development - including a bar, restaurant, car park, retail offering and residential apartments - will also be dependent on a successful Invest NI grant application.
