Plans to address paramilitary style attacks

The Minister said that the attacks are not a form of justice and that the police require community support to tackle the issue.

David Ford said: “I support the initiative launched by the police today to tackle this barbaric and inhumane activity.

“Those who participate in these attacks have no place in society. Their actions are entirely motivated by power, imposing fear and control in their own communities. It is not a form of justice.

“The police have outlined their plans to work in partnership, build community confidence and provide community assurance that such attacks will not be tolerated.

“While they have a key role they require, and deserve, the support of the community to tackle this crime.

“We have recently witnessed community protests against these attacks and that is to be welcomed. We need a united voice against those who perpetrate such attacks and I would urge anyone with information to contact police directly or through Crimestoppers.”
