Plans to expand Slieve Kirk windfarm

THE developer of the proposed 12 turbine Slieve Kirk windfarm near Ardmore wants to extend it by nine additional windmills.

The original plan to develop a 25 turbine farm was previously downscaled and a revised application for just 12 turbines submitted.

But now a further revised application, which will see a total of 21 turbines installed if approved, has been submitted with the planners. SSE Renewables is currently constructing the windfarm on lands bound by Bigwood Road, Kildoag Road and Castlewarren Road within the townlands of Lisdillon and Kildoag in Londonderry and Knockbrack, Gosheden, Lackagh, Ardground and Legagh in Tyrone. The renewable energy firm has applied for an extension to a previously approved application to include an “additional 9 turbines (maximum height 110m - hub height 68.3m and blade radius of 41.2m), new access tracks and associated ancillary works.”
