Plans to impose 60mph speed limit on Cookstown/Moneymore Dual Carriageway

A proposal has been put forward by DRD Roads Service to impose a 60mph speed limit on A29 Moneymore Road, Cookstown.

Plans were announced by Roads Service representatives at the monthly meeting of Cookstown District Council.

A Roads Service representative outlined the plans to reduce the speed limit on the dual carriageway between Cookstown and Moneymore to 60mph from the automatic 70mph restriction on all dual carriageways.

He said the proposal had been put forward due to the accident history on the particularly busy stretch of road.

A spokesperson for DRD told the MAIL: “This proposal is to reduce the speed limit on A29 Moneymore Road , Cookstown (the dual carriageway between Cookstown and Moneymore) from the national speed of 70mph limit to 60mph.

“The proposed limit will now be advertised in local newspapers on 30 July 2014 and any person may within 22 days from the date of publication comment or object to the proposal.”
