Plans to secure funding for multi sports area

POLICE are currently involved with Ground Work NI, Ballymoney Borough Council and the Community Association to secure funding for a multi sports area in the Bann Sector.

The news was revealed during a recent District Policing Partnership meeting held at Riada House last Tuesday.

Outlining community policing, Area Commander John Magill explained: “Engagement with the community, local representatives and councillors continues to increase in the Ballymoney District.

“In Rasharkin bi-monthly interagency meetings were held between police, members of the local community, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Community safety Partnership and a North Eastern Education and Library Board youth worker. Two Police surgeries each month in the Community Association building.

“During October - December police were involved with Mediation Northern Ireland using a multiagency approach to identify issues of concern in the village. This work is continuing.

“Police are currently involved with Ground Work NI, Ballymoney Borough Council and the Community Association to secure funding for a multi sports area. It is hoped that another ‘Soap Box’ race can be held in Dunloy following last summers successful event.

“In Balnamore officers have worked with the Mil Youth Club to address anti social behaviour through the “prison me no way” project which includes taking young people to Magilligan prison to give them an insight to prison life.

“Officers attend meetings of the Anti Social Behaviour Forum, Ballymoney Community Forum and Ballymoney Community Resource Centre. The CASE programme continues in schools across the area delivering messages on key safety issues such as knife crime, internet safety, drug, solvent and alcohol abuse.”
