Plea to parents in run up to St Patrick's

Parents and teenagers have been asked to be aware of the consequences of anti-social behaviour during the St Patrick's Day festivities.

Sinn Féin Councillor, Keith Haughian said: “Last year in north Lurgan we had an intolerable situation where young people were being dropped off with carry outs. Most of these young people were well below the legal drinking age.

“Since then the North Lurgan Safer Community project has been set up to tackle anti social behaviour. In conjunction with other agencies, including the community police, we have enjoyed huge success minimising incidents of ASB.

“I have asked the PSNI to allocate additional resources this year and will continue to liaise with the community police throughout the weekend to ensure residents have a fun filled and peaceful day.

“Local GAA clubs, sporting organisations and community groups have went to great lengths to organise a parade and a day of activities for families. They should be commended for this.

“Those with other ideas are simply not welcome in the North Lurgan community. Parents and young people should be clear - young people caught with alcohol are at risk of both a police escort home and a criminal record.
