Please stop attacks plea

MEMBERS of the City Grand Orange Lodge have appealed for those responsible for recent attacks on the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall to stop targeting the historic building.

In a statement this week the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge PRO, Victor Wray, said: “The City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge would like to condemn the mindless paint bomb attacks on the Memorial Hall over the Remembrance Weekend. We thought that those days wer over and that we were not going back to those dark days.

“These attacks were carried out between 5pm and 7pm, and at 8pm in the evening, so some people have seen those responsible out roaming with bottles of paint, and surely someone can come forward to the police and give the names of those who conducted these attacks,” he said.

Stressing the importance of the Memorial Hall as the HQ for the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, Mr Wray continued: “We have opened up our hall over the last few years for all sections of the community to visit including tourists and people from all section of the community from both north and south of Ireland.

“We think we have moved forward and these mindless attacks are doing nothing for the confidence of the Protestant and Unionist people on the Western Bank of the City. We would ask those responsible for these attacks to stop,” Mr Wray said.
