Plenty to see and do on big Culture Night

Lisburn locals are encouraged to turn out and enjoy the unique experience of Culture Night, a night of free entertainment, discovery and adventure taking place, not only in the city’s Historic Quarter but in a record 30 towns and cities right across the island, including Belfast.

There will be local bands, dancers, jugglers, poets, choirs, actors, hip-hoppers; all manner of performers from the professionals to the local artist, all for free.

Lisburn Historic Quarter Arts Group and Lisburn City Centre Management have joined forces to provide a range of cultural activities for all ages in bars, restaurant and public spaces across the city.

Lisburn’s Culture Night will start in the Historic Quarter with activities in Castle Gardens. From 4pm visit the restored 17th and 19th century gardens where organised tours will be led by The Irish Linen Centre and Museum taking you back to the Lisburn of old.

At the same time Lisburn City Library will be open providing a Jazz musical performance by Ray Robinson.

In Castle Gardens you enjoy family fun by playing giant games and listening to the sounds of Streetwise Samba band, there will even be a few interesting characters putting on a street show.

Come along and take part in the fun, face painting and craft activities for all the family.

Adjacent to Castle Gardens nip into The Bead Shop where local proprietor Lynne Waterworth will be providing drop-in jewellery workshops for all ages.

Local community groups will come on board too, Atlas Women’s Group will stomp out a memorable zumba performance and young people from Community Circus Lisburn will dazzle passers-by with their skills.

From 5-8pm visit R-Space Gallery where you can visit the preview of Firing Sound exhibition by Matthew Whiteside and Andrew Cooke.

In the courtyard take view as Eamonn Higgins demonstrates blacksmithing or try your hand at some Street Art while listening to the sounds of a local DJ.

If you prefer poetry and prose -there’s something for you too. Zion Writers’ Group will perform at The Irish Linen Centre and Museum with entertainment by The Percy French Quartet. Meanwhile in Lisburn City Cathedral there will be a performance by Lisburn Harmony Ladies Choir.
