P&O ‘continue to be committed’ to Larne harbour and Cairnryan route

Assembly member Oliver McMullan and Coast Road councillor James McKeown revealed that they met with the company’s operations director, Sue MacKenzie, in Larne.

“We had asked for a meeting to discuss plans for the harbour and the Larne-Cairnryan ferry link in light of the ongoing recession and the loss of the Seatruck operation,” explained Mr McMullan.

“I am glad to say that P&O were upbeat. It is obviously a difficult trading situation at present and the number of tourists coming in to the port was down, but they have met recently with staff to outline their future plans and assured them that they are part of them. They are buoyant about the new Link-Span facility at Cairnryan.

“Like any other company, everything is subject to review on an annual basis, but from what they’ve told us, P&O continue to be committed to both Larne harbour and the Cairnryan route, which is good news for the borough.”
