Points and fine for no insurance

A £100 fine and six penalty points have been imposed on a Ballymena woman who drove a car without insurance.

Michelle Dowds (32), of Dunfane Crescent in the town, admitted the offence at last Thursday’s sitting in Antrim of Ballymena Magistrate’s Court.

Her solicitor described his client’s lack of insurance when stopped at Frys Road on June 24, 2009, as “a genuine mistake”.

He said Dowds had been covered through her father’s insurance but that he had changed vehicles and her name was taken off one car and put on another.

“She was taken aback when she found she was not covered,” he said, adding that Dowds was insured for the vehicle she was currently driving.
