Police act over Stoneyford problems

Lisburn and Castlereagh City PSNI Commander, Superintendent Sean Wright has said a file is being prepared for the Public Prosecution Service, after a series of reports of criminal activities in Stoneyford.

He said incidents, that include graffiti daubed onto walls and lamp posts being painted red, white and blue, are being monitored, on a daily basis.

Councillor Pat Catney said he received dozens of complaints from angry residents over the matter.

“I work with all members of the community and know from speaking to those living in Stoneyford this is not representative of them,” said Mr Catney. “The police have been very quick in responding to the incidents.”

Mr Wright said he visited Stoneyford to see for myself the incidents and has spoken with local residents and elected representatives.

“The people who are doing this do not have the support of local people and are not making any positive contribution to that community through their criminality,” he said.

“I am pleased to say local police have received information about these incidents and as a result one person has been detected for criminal damage related offences.

“That is not the end of our investigations though and I continue to monitor the situation, along with the response from the police and our partners, on a daily basis.

“I am determined through working with the public and our partner agencies we will bring those involved before the courts.

“I ask the public to continue to pass information to us, dial 101 and ask to speak to an officer if they see or hear anything suspicious or if they have any information.”
