Police and planners probe Magheramorne tree felling

Police have launched an investigation after an alleged breach of wildlife protection laws near Magheramorne.

The Larne Times understands that a number of trees were removed at Ballypollard Road recently, displacing and even killing some nesting birds in the area.

The Department for the Environment is looking into the incident, as it is believed some of the trees were protected by a tree preservation order.

A DoE spokeswoman said: “When notified of the alleged breach of planning control, officers inspected the site and the matter is still under investigation.”
