Police appeal over distraction burglary in Craigyhill

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a distraction burglary in Larne's Craigyhill area.

The PSNI revealed that one of the men involved had posed as a representative of the Housing Executive while two others ransacked the victim’s house.

Detective Sergeant Crothers stated: “It was reported between the hours of 1.00pm and 1.20pm on Monday November 7, a male claiming to be from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive approached a residential premises and asked about erecting a fence at the rear of the property.

“The home owner left the front door unlocked and accompanied the male to the rear of the premises.

“Whilst this was happening two other males ransacked the residential premises.

“They made off with sentimental items and a sum of money. The males were seen making off in a dark saloon car.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have any information or may have witnesses this incident to contact Ballymena Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 534 on 07/11/16.

“Or, alternatively if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
