Police arrest man in McConnell murder probe

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch have arrested a 48 year old man as part of an investigation into the murder of James McConnell in Londonderry in 2009.

The suspect was arrested in Dungiven and has been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for questioning.

Mr McConnell, who was 38, was shot by two masked men at his home in Woodland Avenue in Londonderry on 11 February 2009. The 48 year old suspect is also being questioned about a shooting incident in Feeny in 2004 when a shotgun was fired at a house.

Detectives are also conducting two searches in the Dungiven area. Police would appeal to anyone with information about Mr McConnell’s murder to contact detectives at Maydown on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, people can call the independent charity Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111.
