Police chief shocked at theft of handbag

A senior police officer in Ballymoney has strongly criticised the theft of a community health worker's handbag while she was attending patients in Loughgiel.

Inspector David Anderson revealed that Action Cancer’s Big Bus service had been at the Millennium Centre in Loughgiel on Saturday, February 13.

While speaking to patients, the worker’s handbag (‘Fossil’ brand) containing personal items as well as credit cards and cash was stolen.

“Someone who is there to help, and work for the community gets repaid by having her handbag stolen. I am genuinely shocked and appalled that this has happend,” Inspector Anderson said.

He said the woman was a staff member on the Action Cancer bus and sometime during her shift between 10am and 3pm on Saturday February 13, her bag was taken.

The “Big Bus” is well known in the local area and provides a valuable service to the community. It is thought that the service saw a large number of people visit it on the day.

Appealing for help, Inspector Anderson described it as a “bad experience” for the woman.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. should contact police on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
