Police deal with series of assaults

POLICE had to deal with a series of assaults in Lurgan and Craigavon over the past week, and most of them involved domestic violence.

According to the PSNI there were eight incidents of assault, five of which were related to domestic incidents and four arrests were made.

A 47-year-old man was assaulted in the Meadowbrook area on 28 January. It is understood the injured party sustained injuries to his hand and head.

A 47-year-old man was arrested and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

There was also an assault on a man in Dill Avenue around 1.30am on 3 February.

A 39-year-old man was arrested and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

And in a third incident a man and woman were assaulted in Gilpins Mews, Lurgan, at 9.50pm on February 3.

A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on February 27.

Lurgan police are also investigating an incident on the Portadown Road when a man was found lying on the ground behind his vehicle.

According to police at around 5pm on Tuesday, January 29 a man was found close to Supervalu on the Portadown Road, lying behind his blue Volkswagen Caddy van. He had a head wound.

Police said they are uncertain as to what happened as the man doesn’t know how he sustained his injury. At this stage, police do not know if it was an assault.

However, police are probing an incident in Alexandra Crescent, Lurgan when a 20-year-old man was assaulted by two other men.

Police said the man was assaulted on Tuesday, January 22 between 2.30pm and 3pm close to the Lurgan campus of Craigavon Senior High School. He sustained bruising to his face. They are particularly keen to hear from a motorist who may have stopped to assist the man.
