Police discover £200,000 worth of cannabis

Lisburn and Hillsborough in the past week.

Police acting on information discovered around £120,000 worth of herbal cannabis following a search in the Ballylesson Road.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man was due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with possession of a class B drug and possession of a class B drug with intent to supply.

The charges relate to the recovery of suspected cannabis worth approximately £60,000 from a car in the Hillsborough roundabout area on Monday.

Chief Inspector John Wilson praised officers for what he described as the “huge” find at Ballylesson Road.

“This is very substantial and some of the haul was bagged up ready for processing,” he said.

“Officers have taken more drugs off the streets and this is a key example of how the PSNI is keeping people safe while policing in the community.

“I would urge anyone who knows anything about the sale and supply of drugs to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 or if someone would like to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The Hillsborough drugs arrest, meanwhile, was one of three this week, detectives from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branchhaving also arrested two men ,aged 30 and 28, on suspicion of possession of a class B controlled drug with intent to supply following the discovery of £240,000 worth of cannabis in a car in Derry.

Police have also issued a warning about the theft of prescription drugs such as Septanest which were taken during a burglary at a dentist at Longstone Street, sometime between 5pm on Friday and 8am on Monday.

Other items, including a television, laptop and a coffee machine, were also taken.

Anyone who has the drugs or finds them is asked to hand them in to police.

“Prescription pads with the name of the dentist were taken,” said a police spokesperson.

“Any business involved in the issuing of prescription drugs should be aware of this in case an attempt is made to try and obtain drugs without authority by using these pads.”
