Police discover shotgun on the Flowbog Road during search

Lisburn Area Commander Chief Inspector John Wilson has praised the police after a shotgun was found on the Flowbog Road on Monday.

PSNI officers recovered a firearm during a planned search shortly after 2pm.

“This item, which is suspected to be a shotgun, was removed from the scene after it was examined by the army to ensure it was safe,” Mr Wilson said.

“It was discovered after a proactive search of the area, and is another example of Lisburn PSNI’s determination to keep the public safe.”

UKIP Lisburn South Representative Brian Higginson said: “Guns serve absolutely no purpose in our community, and anyone with any information on criminal activity such as this going on in and around Lisburn should report it instantly to the police.”

UUp’s Alexander Redpath said, “I would like to commend the PSNI for their ongoing efforts to control the circulation of fire arms in Northern Ireland.

“I would like to thank local residents for their patience and consideration with the inevitable road closures that accompany this sort of incident.”
