Police discovered man hiding in attic

Police found a 23 year old man hiding in the attic of a house in Lurgan even though he was banned from entering the town.

Aaron Black, whose address was given as Fairmount Park, Dungannon, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court by way of videolink from Maghaberry prison.

He is charged with criminal damage to a window on October 25 this year, criminal damage to a wing mirror, criminal damage to a T shirt and track suit bottoms, resisting a constable and two assaults, one on a female and one on a male.

Opposing a bail application a police officer said that police had been called to a house where a resident alleged he had been assaulted by the
accused who had thrown a bin through the window.

Police went to a house in Albert Street, Lurgan, and found the defendant hiding in the attic.

The officer said Black had broken his bail conditions because he was not at his residence in Dungannon and he had broken his curfew.

He explained the accused had called at the address in Lurgan when his bail conditions excluded him from the town.

He was also banned from drinking alcohol in a public place.

The officer said Black had been drinking at the house and there was a fall out.

This was his third breach of bail.

“He seems to have a disregard for any court actions,” he added.
“He doesn’t seem to understand bail means bail and does his own thing.”

He objected to bail saying there was a risk of further offences and there were new injured parties who may be intimidated.

Black also seemed to have a drink problem.

During questioning by Black’s solicitor the officer said that it had taken five police officers to restrain the accused.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, refused bail on the grounds that there was a risk of further offending and Black had broken his
curfew, his alcohol condition and the restriction on his movements.

He remanded him in custody to appear on
videolink at Craigavon court on
November 28.
