Police found an air rifle in loft of house

When police carried out a search of a Lurgan house they found an air rifle in the loft.

James Hassett (36), Bridge Street, was fined £125 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for possession of a firearm without a firearm certificate.

The court heard that at 7.15pm on December 17, 2013, a search was carried out at the defendant’s home under the drugs act and a small quantity of drugs was found on another male. An air rifle was found in the attic. Hassett said he had found the gun when out with friends and put it in the loft. There was no ammunition found.

Mr Peter Murphy, defending, said his client would say the weapon had been in the roof space for eight to nine years. It had been forgotten about.
