Police 'getting mobile'

CRAIGAVON'S Neighbourhood Policing Teams will now be even easier contact thanks to a new initiative which has equipped them with mobile phones specific to their local area.

Funded by Craigavon District Policing Partnership, the phones will play a vital role in helping to ensure the safety of local communities and will provide a direct line for residents to officers who have responsibility for delivering community-based policing for their area.

The DPP identified that whilst some Neighbourhood Teams in the borough had mobiles that could be accessed by the community, not everywhere was able to avail of this enhanced service.

Chairman of Craigavon District Policing Partnership, Councillor Michael McGoldrick, said: “These mobile phones are a vitally important asset to the Neighbourhood Policing Teams as they help local communities speak to officers directly and quickly which in turn will help protect vulnerable people and tackle anti social behaviour in our local area.

"The phones will also enable the Neighbourhood Officers to be more accessible and visible to the local residents and help bring them closer to the community they work in and the people who live there.”

To access the additional numbers, please contact the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 3831 5355. Members of the team will also be distributing the numbers widely throughout the local community over the next few weeks.

Residents are reminded that the Neighbourhood Policing Teams are not on 24-hour duty and anyone who needs an immediate response should always use the emergency 999 number or contact police locally on 0845 600 8000.
