Police hunt arsonist after cars are burnt out in Glengormley

A total of eight vehicles, six cars and two vans, were set alight in six reported incidents between August 5 and September 5, the PSNI revealed this week.

Two of the fires occurred in Burnthill Gardens, two in Queens Avenue and one in each of Pembrooke Mews and Church Way. All the incidents were reported between 1am and 5am.

“Police believe the same person or persons may be responsible and are appealing for the community’s help in identifying them.

“Officers are carrying out additional patrols in these areas during the dark early morning hours and would also encourage local people to be vigilant and report anything out of the ordinary,” a spokesperson commented.

Meanwhile, the attacks have been condemned by North Belfast MLA and local councillor Paula Bradley.

“These arson attacks have left an appalling trail of destruction. It has been a horrendous ordeal for those whose vehicles have been destroyed or damaged.

“There is no apparent motive for these senseless attacks. The police are not treating them as sectarian. Those responsible are causing huge suffering for the victims of their cowardly crimes and fear in the wider community.

“I appeal to anyone who knows who is to blame, or who notices any suspicious activity, to pass that information on to the police,” she said.
