Police hunt bogus St Vincent de Paul collector

A LARGE, unshaven man in his fifties wearing an ear ring is suspected by police in Londonderry of making bogus collections whilst falsely purporting to be collecting on behalf of the St Vincent de Paul charity.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said police would advise the general public that if somebody calls to your shop or at your door unexpectedly selling goods or collecting for a charity, ask to see identification.

“A trained operator will contact the company the caller claims to represent to ensure that they are genuine. If they are not or the operator thinks there is anything suspicious, they will contact police immediately,” a spokeswoman stated.
