Police investigate disturbances

POLICE at Strand Road are currently investigating public order disturbances which broke out in the city centre on Monday, July 12, from approximately 6pm onwards.

Numerous petrol bombs and various missiles were thrown in and around Fahan Street and at the Memorial Hall.

At around 5.45pm a southern registered vehicle parked on Fahan Street was petrol bombed causing extensive damage. The offender has been identified as being male, 6ft tall, wearing black tracksuit bottoms, light blue t-shirt, white trainers and a black balaclava.

Between the hours of 1130pm and 1am attempts were made to erect barricades at the bottom of the Lecky flyover.

On July 13, at around 3am, damage was caused to a window of a van in the Lisfannon Park area.

A number of petrol bombs were thrown at a police vehicle which was patrolling near the Westland Street area at 12.30am on Wednesday, July 14. During this there were also attempts to move a white transit van, however the situation was resolved by dispersing a number of youths in the area. This vehicle has now been recovered by police.

There were also a number of sporadic stone throwing incidents throughout the day in and around the Irish Street and Gobnascale interface.

Police are currently investigating CCTV footage in relation to identifying the persons involved in these incidents.
