Police issue ebay advice

POLICE have warned users of online selling site, ebay, to be on their guard for a potential scam.

The PSNI message follows an incident when a local person was seeking to sell an iphone for 500. The matter was reported to Ballymoney police after the item was dispatched but not apparently to the initial address on the ebay documentation and the payment was then ‘cancelled’ from the seller’s bank account leaving them without the item and no payment.

A police spokesman said the matter was looked at internally by ebay and the online payment processor, Paypal, reportedly said they would not reimburse the loss because the item was posted to a different address.

The spokesman said the case shows anybody selling items on ebay should closely follow the selling guidelines.
