Police issue scam warning

POLICE in Ballymena have issued a reminder to the public to be alert to various types of frauds/scams being consistently practiced.

There is a continuance of letters and emails being received by people requesting that both personal and banking details be forwarded to a building society. This would be to ascertain personal and banking details to then used in fraudulent activity. On this occasion, a member of the public who received this email was aware of this type of criminal act, and quickly notified police.

This is a well-publicised scam but is still on going.

We would remind the public - under no circumstances should you disclose details of your bank or building society account numbers to any unauthorised person.

If you have elderly relatives, neighbours, or provide care for anyone who may fall prey to this type of crime, make them aware of these messages. Police are always keen to hear from anyone who may have been targeted by criminals.
