A 17-year-old male was interviewed and a report was submitted to the PPS.

Police in Craigavon said they are committed to tackling areas of concern in the community and will take action to curb the nuisance and dangers associated with the use of off-road scramblers and mopeds on public footpaths and green spaces.

A spokeswoman for the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "The use of such motorised vehicles as a leisure activity can be both exciting and fun particularly as we are now coming into the lighter evenings of the summer months.

"However, as with most outdoor activities, it can be dangerous and against the law in certain circumstances. We constantly receive reports from concerned members of the public about young people riding vehicles like scramblers and quads recklessly in the local area, causing noise pollution, pedestrian annoyance and inconvenience and scaring animals."

She continued: "Quads, 'Go-Ped' scooters and some scramblers do not comply with Construction and Use regulations and Vehicle Safety Standards and therefore are restricted to 'off-road' use only.

"This does not mean they can be driven anywhere 'off-road'. These vehicles should only be used on private land where you have permission and should not be used on pavements, roads, public property or parks, this includes the green grass areas and black paths throughout the Craigavon area.”

She concluded: "Police also have the power to seize these vehicles. It is important young people recognise that this is a real possibility and has happened before. Police will enforce the necessary legislation in an effort to ensure public safety."
