Police ‘not on target’ for careless and dangerous driving

Ballymoney police are ‘not on target’ with regards to increasing the number of persons reported for careless and dangerous driving by 5%.

The news was revealed during a recent District Policing Partnership meeting held at Riada House.

From April to March 2009/2010 there were 99 reported crimes compared to 75 during April to March 2010/2011 - a reduction of 24.3%. However the number of fatalities (two) remained the same as the previous year.

In response Chief Inspector John Magill explained: “As part of the overall strategy to reduce the number of persons killed or seriously injured on the road by increasing the number of persons reported for careless and dangerous driving by 5%.

“In addition to enforcement work, much work with our partners has gone into educating road users, especially drivers in the 18 to 25 year old age groups.

“While the number of fatalities (two) remained the same as the previous year, it is pleasing that persons injured in collisions were reduced from 122 to 108.”
