Police officer elbowed in face after argument between pair

After police intervened in an argument between two men one of the men elbowed an officer in the face, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

Krzysztiof Zdunek (20) of Princeton Drive, Lurgan, was fined £150 for assaulting a constable on April 4.

He was also fined £75 for disorderly behaviour, £75 for resisting a constable and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that in Market Street police saw the defendant arguing with another man. They were separated by police who tried to calm the defendant down and obtain details.

Zdunek ran towards the other man and tried to attack him. Police intervened and an officer was elbowed in the face. He suffered redness and swelling.

The defendant struggled with police and handcuffs had to be applied.

Defence said he had been out drinking. The defendant claimed the other person started the altercation.

The solicitor said his client, who had a clear record, was very contrite about what happened.
