Police probe arson attack

POLICE investigating an arson attack in the Whiteabbey area last Wednesday (June 30) have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Shortly before 1.45am two vehicles parked outside a property at King’s Gardens were set alight. There were no reports of any injuries, but a Mazda car and a Volkswagen car were seriously damaged in the attack. Fire and smoke damage was also caused to two nearby flats which were occupied at the time of the incident.

A PSNI spokesperson said that while a motive for the attack is still being investigated, it is not being treated as a hate crime.

“It’s difficult to comprehend the mindset of those who would carry out acts of this nature. I sincerely hope that those behind this incident are caught and I call on anyone with information to contact police immediately,” said Alliance councillor Tom Campbell.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and noticed any unusual activity, or anyone with information about the incident, to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000.
