Police probe Glengormley arson attack

Detectives are investigating an arson attack at a flat in Cherryvale Park, Glengormley.

The incident happened shortly after 3am on Monday, December 29.

“Initial enquiries suggest an accelerant appears to have been placed through the letterbox of the front door to an upstairs flat and set alight,” said Detective Constable Montgomery.

Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the scene and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and quickly extinguished the blaze.

Damage was caused to the door and hallway of the property.

“There were a number of people in the flat at the time but no one was hurt,” DC Montgomery added.

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them at Newtownabbey CID on the non-emergency number 101, or to pass on information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
