Constable Kevin Crossey, Lurgan Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We are aware of one cat in the Elmwood area who has died of poisoning last week and there are rumours that more cats have been harmed by poison.

“If you have any information in relation to this please contact us as we can only put together a full picture when all details are reported to us.

“We are conducting enquiries into this matter and the owner of the cat, who was a family pet, is understandably upset and frustrated.

“We understand that animals will come into contact with substances which may be dangerous to them, however, the deliberate poisoning of a cat can be considered animal cruelty and anyone involved in this activity could find themselves before a court.

“We are asking for your help in preventing another incident like this. If you store antifreeze or other chemicals in your yard or garden, please ensure they are stored securely and are not accessible.

“If you do not want cats wandering in your garden please seek advice on natural cat repellents that will discourage cats from wandering through your garden.

“If you notice any unusual activity or have information in relation to this incident please contact us in Lurgan on the 101 number.”
