Police probing Harryville arson attack

Police are appealing for information following an arson attack on a home in the Francis Street area of Ballymena at around 1.40am this morning (Wednesday 06 August).

Police and the Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and a fire was extinguished.

Damage was caused to the living room of the property as a result of the incident.

According to police, a man, a woman and three children were in the property at the time of the incident but escaped uninjured. Forensic officers are conducting an examination of the scene at present.

Ballymena Commander, Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley called the attack “crude and dangerous”.

“Thankfully we are not dealing with fatalities or serious injury here. The attack was crude but also very dangerous. Police officers and the Fire Service arrived quickly on the scene to help the occupants of the house and take them to safety.

“I am asking anyone who knows anything about this attack to assist the police investigation by calling the non-emergency number 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Ballymena officers will also be in the area today, so please speak to one of them if you know anything that might assist the investigation.”
