A video of a man entertaining the crowds at the Carrickfergus Christmas lights switch on, while dressed in a police uniform went viral. The man is singing the Olly Murs classic, Dance with me Tonight. The video was uploaded to the U105 Facebook page, with the caption: “This is Brill! PSNI officer sings his heart out at Saturday’s Carrickfergus Christmas lights switch on!”

Commenting on the PSNI Carrickfergus Facebook page, a police spokesperson said: “Okay, so how many of you caught this ‘officers’ performance at the Christmas event in Carrickfergus on Saturday afternoon?

“The radio station, U105, along with several print media publications have placed videos of his set on their social media pages and it is attracting hundreds of comments!

“To clarify for anyone who is still arguing this point, this man is an entertainer, paid for by the council. “He is not a police officer nor does he represent the PSNI.

“While the uniform appears to be very realistic, it is a part of his persona for this particular performance. “We don’t believe he had any intent to deceive for criminal purpose.”
